Emergency Home Repair
Because all of US are in this together, DHC has created HAMMERS (Hands Around Mecklenburg Making Emergency Repairs Safely).
We all have experienced the unexpected home repair – a leaky roof, an electrical issue, or an unfixable appliance. For most of us, it’s as easy as a phone call to a service provider. However, for some of the residents of Davidson and our surrounding communities, these repair costs are out of reach.
That is why DHC raises funds to meet the unexpected repair needs of those living in owner-occupied homes, whose income is 80% or less of Area Median Income (AMI), roughly $67,350 for a family of four.
The HAMMERS program works in Huntersville, Cornelius, and Davidson. Funds go to make emergency repairs, giving lower wealth families comfort, safety, and peace of mind. Since the program’s inception in 2005, we have made critical repairs to over 150 houses, improving safety and livability for many.
DHC gives priority to those with special needs including the elderly, disabled, single parent households, or households with five or more inhabitants, including children. Projects address accessibility issues, electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, and roofs.
Many of the repairs are done by a team of dedicated and experienced volunteers. We could always use more helping hands.
